Eddie Van Halen, celebrul chitarist al trupei Van Halen, a murit la varsta de 65 de ani, dupa o lunga lupta cu cancerul la gat. Moartea sa a fost confirmată de fiul sau, basistul Van Halen, Wolfgang Van Halen.
Wolfgang a declarat: “I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.
He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss.
I love you so much, Pop.”

Eddie Van Halen a fost compozitor si producator, fondator al formatiei Van Halen, inclusa in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Este considerat unul dintre cei mai mari chitaristi ai tuturor timpurilor si unul dintre cei mai influenti ai secolului 20. In anul 2011, revista Rolling Stone l-a plasat pe locul al optulea in topul 100 Greatest Guitarists, iar cititorii publicatiei Guitar World l-au votat, in anul 2012, ca fiind cel mai mare chitarist din toate timpurile.
Numele sau este asociat, in afara formatiei Van Halen, care activeaza din 1972, cu artisti precum Brian May, Michael Jackson, LL Cool J, Sammy Hagar, Steve Lukather si Black Sabbath.
