Greece’s Suicidal Angels emerged in 2001 with a sound that was built from the bedrock of classic ’80s Bay Area thrash. Led by guitarist and vocalist Nick Melissourgos, who has been the group’s sole constant member throughout the years, the band’s neck-snapping sonic attack has yielded a bevy of acclaimed studio albums, with highlights arriving via 2012’s Bloodbath, 2019’s Years of Aggression, and 2024’s Profane Player.
Inspired by bands like Napalm Death, Celtic Frost, and Slayer, Suicidal Angels was formed in 2001 by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Nick Melissourgos. The band released the demo United by Hate in 2002, followed by the EP Bloodthirsty Humanity in 2004. A four-track single appeared in 2006, paving the way for the group’s first full- length, Eternal Domination. By this time, the band had expanded its fan base throughout Europe and had begun making a splash overseas as well. In 2008, the group inked a deal with metal behemoth Nuclear Blast and began recordingits 2009 sophomore effort, Sanctify the Darkness, marking their first release for German metal label NoiseArt.
The next three years saw the group take on an ambitious touring regimen, appearing at numerous festivals, including Wacken Open Air, Metalcamp, Sonisphere, and Brutal Assault Open Air. During that period, they released albums three and four, 2010’s Dead Again and 2012’s Bloodbath, the latter of which was their first album to chart. 2014’s Divide and Conquer made a strong showing on the German charts, as did 2016’s Division of Blood. Years of Aggression, the band’s seventh long-player, arrived in 2019 and found favor among German, Austrian, and Swiss audiences as well. The band re-signed to Nuclear Blast for their eighth full-length effort, 2024’s Profane Player, which showcased the group’s technical prowess and ferocity.
